2003 Man of the Year

PAT GESINO

Pasquale "Pat" Gesino was born in New Haven, Conn. on August 4, 1902.  His parents were both born in Italy, near Naples.  They had 4 boys and 4 girls, and of the eight children, Pat is the only surviving sibling.

He had many jobs in his 101 years, as you can imagine, but his main occupation was being in business for himself as a marine contractor in Brooklyn, caulking decks on aircraft carriers, etc.  He retired at the age of 52 and moved to Florida in 1954.  He went to work at several race tracks in the area as a mutual clerk.

Pat met his bride, Mary, in Brooklyn, and they were married 75 years last year.  They would have been together for 76 years, and Mary would have been 100 years old on November 10th, but several months ago, she passed away.  Together, they had two children, Barbara & Charles.

Pat was one of the first President of Italian American Civic League of Broward County, Hollywood, which is now over 50 years old.  He and his late wife were active members of the Italian American Women's Club.  His daughter, Barbara, is now President of this Club, and Pat attends all the Clubs dinner meetings and all other functions with her.  He is still very active and enjoys looking at the stock market each day and is an avid reader.  He also has an excellent appetite, savors his Italian meals and helps with the cooking.  Pat is very proud of his Italian Heritage.
